Automation is a decision about people first

A tool that copies a broken process just breaks things faster. Automation decisions start with what people should stop doing, not what software can do.

The first question of an automation project is never "what can the tool do". It is "which of these steps should nobody be doing in the first place".

Automating a badly designed process gives you a faster version of the same problem. That is why the diagnosis always comes before the tool: find the step, prove it is wasted effort, remove it, and only then decide whether software should own what remains.
